Toy Review: Way To Play Rubber Roads

My son loves playing with his train track collection so I thought a natural extension of this would be to add some roads to his creative play.

One of the reasons I was drawn to the Way To Play rubber roads was their flexibility and also that they could be used on almost any surface, including at the river, at the beach, outdoors, indoors and more. I saw many pictures of children playing with their roads in all these fabulous locations and couldn't wait for my son to do the same. Unfortunately though, the roads are not as user friendly as they appear. We purchased the 16 piece set as I didn't want to invest too much money into a toy I wasn't sure my son would play with frequently enough and now I am tossing up whether to just sell the set we have or buy more in the hopes that he has more freedom on what he can create with more pieces. Here are some pros and cons;

Positives:

* The pieces are very sturdy and flexible and combine really well with other open-ended toys such as the Grimms wooden arches. * The pieces are very easy to clean

* Storing the pieces is really easy as they can easily be stored away in a shoe box or basket

Negatives:

* Whilst the road pieces themselves are flexible, the connectors are not as flexible and frequently become undone resulting in much frustration.

* The connectors are quite hard for a child to place together and consistently come apart especially when on a soft surface such as carpet or sand

Thoughts:

We definitely prefer traditional wooden roads and tracks but will persevere a little longer with using the rubber roads outdoors.
